San Francisco

If you’re heading to San Francisco, here are some of my favorite places to stay and eat:

Where to Stay: My pick for lodging is usually The Hotel Vitale, a quiet and relaxing boutique hotel where the service is always attentive and friendly; comfortable beds and water views, with the added bonus of Spa Vitale after a day of sightseeing, eating, and shopping. Granted, there are definitely more over-the-top, luxury or greener picks in the city but as I’m always guided by my next meal, this location is a food-lover’s dream.  Across the street from the Ferry Building, where you’ll definitely want to spend some time, whether exploring the Farmers’ Market (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays) or indulging in some excellent coffee at Blue Bottle.  Some of my favorite stops: Hog Island Oyster Bar, Book Passage, Boulette’s Larder, cocktails at The Slanted Door, chocolates from Rechiutti, and so much more.

Tip:  After a restorative massage at Spa Vitale, make your way to the 5th floor terrace at dusk for a view of the Bay Bridge and the Ferry Building.
