SIBA (the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance, September 2007) This year the show was in Atlanta and I appeared at Sunday's Moveable Feast of Authors. http://www.sibaweb.com/
BEA 2007
This was my first experience at Book Expo America, a bustling and thoroughly heady gathering of publishers, agents, booksellers, media, and authors. My publisher, Grand Central Publishing, scheduled my very first signing (of Advance Reading Copies) on Friday June 1st. Of all the authors, I found myself seated next to Rhonda Byrne of THE SECRET (yes, you've seen her on Oprah discussing the laws of attraction, and the glories of positive thinking), who had about 10,000 people in her line while I had about 10 (half of whom were my friends). I smiled and signed 1 book for every 100 or so of Rhonda's. At one point, a woman who was in Rhonda's line looked over at me and said, with a shrug: I guess I'll take one of yours, too. What kind of positive thinking is that? All in all, the experience was extraordinary and humbling and I'm grateful to my publisher and editor for supporting me there. |
