Catie’s King Cake Royale

By kim ~ March 11th, 2009. Filed under: New Orleans, recipes.

It’s a little late for King Cake, but since I no longer live in New Orleans, my friend Catie, baker and scientist extraordinaire, made me a birthday King Cake. The dough is soft and tender and we added cream cheese and almond paste and orange zest to the filling. For a moment, we thought about adding all the babies into the cake so no one would feel left out. We decided against an octo-Baby King Cake and went with 1 baby in 1 cake and this beautiful ceramic butterfly.

I don’t care if it is too late for king cake. I’ve been reading about them since Mardi Gras and I have a craving.

Of course, that could be a reaction to all the chickens I’ve been cooking lately (I’m a culinary school student and this week is chicken week!).

    Cheers.

Wonder when you will post the recipe. I love King Cake’s, especially the fun of seeing who gets the charms inside.

It’s always great to see homemade king cakes from across the country, this one definitely looks interesting!

Boo hoo. This is exactly what I’ve been searching for–a King Cake recipe with an almond paste filling. The pictures are amazing. But, we’ve been left hanging with no recipe!! The link Frank added for other cakes doesn’t have any with almond paste filling.

    Hi Julie,
I will post the recipe with photos tomorrow or Monday, at the latest. Catie is making her fabulous recipe for the Saints tomorrow. More soon…

    Thanks.
