I only started visiting Hawaii a few years ago, when I met Neil, the man who convinced me to stay with him, promising I wouldn’t have to cure my wanderlust and that if I weathered the winters in the North that he would take me to the sunny side of the world.

He’s kept his promise. So, here we are on Maui. Early morning coral and crimson hibiscus open up to the ocean air. Songbirds swoop about. I spent the morning trying to open up my psoas muscle at morning yoga. I admit that I am not enlightened in yoga positions (I had never heard of this muscle) and I feel like an imposter among the sleek and flexible bodies around me. But the air is cool and in the distance the sun is rising and I concentrate on the waves, and begin to relax. I think about my friend Charlotte Brady, my soul sister when we both lived in Stockholm many moons ago. We’ve both moved many times, with places like Barbados, Brooklyn, New Orleans, Paris, Alaska and Miami between us. A poet, Mom, wife, and yoga instructor, she has been sending out daily reminders toward blissful thinking and I am grateful for her presence and friendship.
More soon…

I’m so glad my blog posts have traveled all the way to Hawaii, a place I’ve never been to.
